AI is a tool, not an oracle
I use AI hands-on in delivery, reporting, process automation and quality work, combining it with critical thinking and verification. I treat it as a practical tool for extending what I can do, not as a novelty or a replacement for human judgement.
AI can expand what one person sees and does quickly. It cannot replace judgement, domain knowledge or verification.
The verification loop
I use a simple discipline: AI expands the search space; critical-thinking tools interrogate the output; human judgement decides. The loop repeats when better questions or new evidence emerge.
In July 2025, I used ChatGPT to assemble public guidance for an unfamiliar electric hire car whose routine controls were hard to discover. It removed information friction, but I still checked safety-critical guidance rather than treating the generated answer as authoritative. Hands-on delivery with AI

I built this website from its design brief in three days using two different LLMs, with human direction and review throughout. The public Siliconglen site GitHub repository records the full process.
Roots in AI research
My undergraduate work in Edinburgh University’s Department of Artificial Intelligence included a 1985 surface-orientation edge detector and a 1987 character-recognition project. Both addressed the enduring problem of extracting useful structure from messy input.
